How to Configure a Symantec Anti-Virus Server

Every operating system requires Anti-virus and firewall protection in order to avoid malicious software that may find its way into the network. Symantec Anti-Virus Corporate Edition is one of the well known protection administrators and works with the Windows server 2003 to provide network security. Step 1: Using the administrator username and password, login to your Windows server 2003.

Step 4: After that, select the ‘Security Configuration Wizard (SCW)’ option and click on the ‘Next’ tab.
Step 5: An installation would be in progress. Once it is completed, a message will come up that says ‘Component Successfully Installed.’
Step 6: Again, click on the ‘start’ button and then select ‘Administrative Tools’
Step 7: The next step involves clicking on the ‘Security Configuration Wizard (SCW)’ icon. Then you will be taken to the Security Configuration Wizard welcome screen.
Step 8: At the bottom of the welcome screen, the ‘Next’ button needs to be clicked. The configuration setup will be started.
Step 9: Click on the option that says ‘Create a new security policy’ and then click on ‘next.’
Step 10: You will be taken to a Security Policies page. On the bottom of the page, click on the ‘Next’ option. It is not required to change any Security Policy settings.
Step 11: In the Open Ports and Approve Applications screen, select ‘All ports’ from the drop down menu. All server ports, outgoing and incoming email ports will be selected.
Step 12: From the server’s Audit policy, the option of ‘Account Logon Events’ needs to be selected. It will generate a server log with a list of all the IP Addresses that connect to the particular network. It also generates the information of the pages that are accessed and whether any wrong login information is used. If you want to track down an unauthorized computer user or any form of threatening insecurity, this information can prove to be very useful.
Step 13: Click on the ‘Next’ button.
Step 14: The Symantec Anti-Virus protection is configured and confirmed after clicking on the ‘Finish’ button.
Although the above data mostly mention the instructions for the configuration of the Symantec Anti-Virus server protection, one must keep in mind not to skip the last stage to avoid any further problems. The last step in its configuration involves the Security Configuration Wizard. It should be run once the software has been installed and configured. It ensures that everything has been carried out for an efficient setup.
